Just a day before the New York Comic Con panel (which we will be covering), EW posted a first look at Tomorrowland, with director Brad Bird and writer Damon Lindelof. Also included, was some first look pictures, which contain not only familiar elements, but some new concepts to share.
In the article, Bird asks "..what did [the future] used to be?” - and it's clear from this picture, we see a look at the futuristic elements of the film.

The Tomorrowland cityscape by Syd Mead. Notice the citizens clothes and the child up front with the jetpack. This may be from around the World's Fair time. |
|
This cityscape matches the style of the city we saw at the end of The Optimist ARG. |
|
Notice the child in the just released image above, with the jetpack - this matches some of the filming we saw. This may be an early Frank Walker discovering Tomorrowland as a child after the 1964 World's Fair. |
We also get a better details about the characters as well. "The hero is Casey Newton (Britt Robertson), a teenager in the here and now, where it’s very hard to be an
optimist." She gets her glimpse of Tomorrowland through a very familiar lapel pin that she finds in her adventure.

Notice the lapel pin she is holding as she gets a glimpse of Tomorrowland. |

This is the same lapel pin that players of The Optimist received at it's conclusion - providing US a glimpse of the future as well. |
Lastly, we find out more about Frank Walker (George Clooney) who is a "failed inventor who knows more about Tomorrowland than he wants to tell". We know from the shot footage, he discovered Tomorrowland during a trip to the 1964 New York World's Fair, due to the hidden portal on
it's a small world. He ultimately teams up with Casey Newton to find and discover Tomorrowland once again today.
Also, as Lindelof and Bird make clear, Walt Disney did not create Tomorrowland (the other dimension), but may have had a key role in it - maybe even stealing the idea for the land in Disneyland.
Overall, this excites us even more about the film - and with Casey finding the same pin we did at the end of The Optimist - it's clear that the bigger narrative of the film is being explored not only in the film, but in our world as well. We can only hope this leads to more real-world adventures before the film gets released.
Based on this news today, we can't wait for the New York Comic Con panel tomorrow. Be sure to follow us on Twitter for live updates from the convention.
